Technology has transformed the manner in which business is conducted. This is evident during the pandemic. Consumers have exhibited a preference for shopping online than visiting the shopping malls. This has affected sales in the stores, leading to relatively quiet shopping malls. Indeed, Children’s Place, Gap, GNC, JC Penney, Macy’s, Pier 1 Imports, Victoria’s Secret, etc. are closing their physical stores due to declining sales. In contrast, online shopping platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Taobao, etc. have skyrocketed. Wholesale (e.g., Costco, Sam’s Club) and retail (e.g., Walmart or Target) chains also have online platforms in addition to physical stores. Social media such as Facebook and WeChat have facilitated online “live” selling of accessories, apparel, electronics, food, household items, shoes, etc., especially in Asia. These popular online “live” sales platforms allow customers to shop with ease and convenience in the comfort of their homes. Customers can place orders via comments on the “live” platforms and transactions are captured automatically and processed in real-time. The advanced technology in these platforms enable sellers to provide customers with instantaneous information on whether a specific item is sold out. Thus, technology has facilitated online shopping and transformed the business function globally.
Telecommuting and online meetings have become a norm. Technological platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc. allow employees to perform their activities without meeting face-to-face. These online meetings are deemed to be as effective as face-to-face communication. Social media (e.g., Line, Whatsapp, Telegram, etc.) are also popular avenues for individuals to engage in activities and connect with others.
Manuscripts utilizing rigorous research methods (experiments, surveys, meta-analysis, qualitative or quantitative methods) are welcome. Manuscripts that extend theories or employ creative cases to examine issues on how technology transforms business globally will also be considered.
This conference will be held virtually due to travel restrictions or health-related concerns.
