This was work done by me in a team of 3 members for a case competition (Round 2) of BCG Bruce Henderson's Insight challenge.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The current motor insurance model is outdated and inflexible, leading to challenges such as inaccurate risk assessments, lack of personalized premium pricing, and no incentivization for safe driving behaviour. For insurers, this results in high claims costs, inadequate data-driven insights, and reduced profitability. This contributes to increased accidents and uninsured vehicles on the road, particularly in India, where over 4.6 lakh road accidents occurred in 2022. The motor insurance industry lacks effective tools to promote safer driving and reduce accident-related claims, necessitating a dynamic, data-driven solution.
THE SOLUTION:
Product Development & Prototyping:
Conducted market research to understand customer needs.
Designed and developed a robust telematics solution for tracking driver behaviour and calculating the "Secure Drivers' Index."
Created a seamless integration of hardware and software for real-time data collection.
Ensured compliance with relevant regulatory bodies, like obtaining approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
Developed KPIs such as speed, distance travelled, vehicle condition, and driving habits to personalize premiums and provide feedback to drivers.
Investment & Market Launch:
Seek seed funding or venture capital to support product development and deployment.
Identify target segments such as private vehicle owners and commercial fleets (e.g., buses, trucks).
Launch targeted marketing campaigns to attract initial users.
Collaborate with insurance companies to offer pilot programs and negotiate collaboration agreements.
Build partnerships with government bodies like the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for regulatory support.
Post-Launch Engagement & Expansion:
Integrate the solution with insurance companies using APIs for data flow and meet their customization and compliance needs.
Onboard companies and provide technical integration and support.
Expand to fleet management and logistics companies, allowing them to use the Secure Drivers' Index to prioritize deliveries.
Collaborate with cab rental companies to integrate the index with their driver rating systems.
Incentivize and reward safe driving behaviours to encourage customer retention.
Expand partnerships with government bodies to mandate the Secure Drivers' Index for specific terrains or driving conditions
