City of Kanpur

The city of Kanpur is located on the banks of the river Ganga about 480 Km east of Delhi. It is well connected by road, rail and air. The weather is very comfortable from November till February. It is within 4-6 hours by train from some of the most attractive tourist sites in India which include Agra, Allahabad, Banaras and Khajuraho. Link to wiki here.

Transportation

Kanpur Central Railway station is well connected to most cities in North, East and Central India. IIT Kanpur is located at a distance of about 16 kilometers from the Kanpur Central Railway Station. It is possible to hire taxis and auto rickshaws to IIT-K to/from the station. Kanpur also has an airport with direct flights from many major cities. It takes nearly 1 hour to reach IIT Kanpur from the Kanpur airport. Alternatively, one may choose to fly to Lucknow, which is a major airport and connections are available to all major cities in India. It takes about 2 hrs to reach IIT Kanpur from Lucknow airport.
