It is Yash’s first day of freshman year at IIT Gandhinagar. Amidst the new faces, new buildings, and endless opportunities, he is excited about the new adventures that await him. Yash was always excited about joining a college club, and today is his day.
“IITGN club orientation at 9 PM today!” Says the bulletin board of his hostel.
After the club orientation at the new Panchayat Circle (PC) of IITGN, where newcomers are introduced to various cultural and technical clubs, Yash leaves the new PC through the skywalk. As he walks, he notices a shadowy figure in a cape approaching him. Startled, he turns around, but no one is there. Then, he hears a mysterious voice calling his name. The voice seems to come from a water cooler on the skywalk. Curiosity gets the better of him. Yash approaches the cooler and finds a letter on it. The letter reads: “We await your joining in the GhostBuster club. Meet us at Lal Minar at 2 AM. Precaution: do not share this, or you die.”
“Ghostbusters club? I don’t recall this name from the orientation.” He thinks to himself and decides to ignore this strange message and tears up the note. “Must be a prank”.
It was 2 AM, and a knock on his door startled Yash. "I wish you had believed me, "an eerie voice whispered, each word dripping with hostility. "Lal Minar is calling out for your help." The words hung in the air like a curse, sending a shiver down his spine. Just then, the lights in his room and across the campus suddenly disappeared. Alarmed, Yash ran only to realize that no one else was around. Approaching VS FastFood shop near Hiqom hostel, he noticed a mysterious red glow emanating from a building far away. Hurrying towards it, he realized it was Lal Minar, shining brightly at night.
At the top of Lal Minar, he finds a group of people whose faces seemed familiar. They were engaged in a deep conversation led by a senior named Divya.
“I hate to break it to you, but our college is haunted”, she said in a rather casual tone. “What do you mean” said Yash, who refused to believe her. “Every year, on 24th April, a person from our very own IITGN campus disappears, never to return. No bodies were seen, and no pieces of evidence were found. Our club is determined to find the mystery behind this, and you are the chosen ones”. “Sorry for scaring you with the invitations, but it is an annual protocol.” She said, ignoring all the loud gasps from the new members.
When Yash asked more questions about the club and the missing persons, Divya refused to share more information. She said, “We can’t tell you anything more. The only way to get all the answers is by joining us.” Divya gave Yash a day to think it over and told him to give his decision by the next night at Lal Minar.
After leaving Lal Minar, Yash couldn't sleep that night, his mind filled with questions. The next day, he tried to investigate the missing cases independently. He asked his senior guide (SG) about the missing person but got no helpful information. He searched the library for books or articles about IITGN’s history but found nothing. Turning to Google and YouTube, Yash discovered that there had been about 10 reported missing cases at IITGN over the years.
As the deadline approached, Yash decided not to go to Lal Minar again and went to bed around 11:30 PM. However, he woke up suddenly at 1:30 AM, screaming from a terrifying dream. In the dream, he saw each of his friends die one by one, followed by his demise. Taking this as a sign, Yash realized he needed to join the GhostBusters to uncover the truth about the disappearances and the dark spirit haunting the college.
With minutes to spare before the deadline, Yash heads to Lal Minar. After reaching Lal Minar, Yash met another senior named Dhruv. Dhruv welcomed Yash and congratulated him on his decision to join the club. Out of curiosity, Yash asked Dhruv, “I’m all in, but I desperately need more information.”
Dhruv replied, “You still have one thing left to do.”
