The Students' Seminar provides a forum for mathematical interaction among the young mathematicians in our department. The talks in the Students' Seminar will be given by the students for the students: no faculty will be in attendance.
All the seminars are expected to be blackboard talks.
The goal is to provide a relaxed atmosphere, where:
the audience feels no pressure in asking questions and interacting with the speaker, and
the speaker feels comfortable taking feedback in improving their presentation skills.
Will be announced every week depending on the availability of speakers and students.

Abstract: In this talk, we shall overview major and useful results on spanning trees, structural properties, enumeration and estimation. Then we shall talk about spanning forests, leading to the problem of estimating the ratio of spanning trees and spanning forests, which was proposed by Prof. Balachandran. We shall cover a few results and conjectures that we have made in this direction, and related problems worked on by others.
