Mitch Vaughn:
- Helped develop and present corporate vision for Siemens, UGS, Tecnomatix and USDATA in key customer engagements, press, magazines and industry forums. Presentations included Digital Enterprise, Industry 4.0, Internet of Things (IOT) and Smart Manufacturing. Represented and guided company interest in several key industry standards including ISA-88, ISA-95, OPC and OPC-UA.
- Served as shop floor domain expert during architectural discussions with General Motors and provided highlevel guidance and technical direction leading to the development of Siemens Dimensional Planning and Validation (DPV) product. DPV is used by the world’s largest automotive companies to provide real time interoperability between their Quality Management and Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) solutions. According to a study by Aberdeen Group, this “Closed Loop Quality Management” approach results in cost reductions of almost 10%.
- Created industrial automation industry’s first configurable, modular, open architecture SCADA software system (US Patent 4,908,746 and 5,325,522) leading to the development of FactoryLink, one of the top SCADA products with over 80,000 licenses sold. FactoryLink controls some of the world’s largest and most demanding automated systems including pipelines, rail, airports, discreet manufacturing and breweries.
- Provided high-level guidance and technical direction to the development, marketing and sales teams creating the xFactory MES product. This included integration with SCADA, ERP and PLM products based on the ISA-95 standard. Led to the company being acquired a by larger software vendor looking for MES capabilities as a component of their larger Digital Manufacturing platform.
- Wrote requirements and functional design for Siemens Calendar Scheduler and Event Notifier options for WinCC. Provided high level guidance to product management in Germany and the Plano, TX development team. WinCC is Siemens’ flagship SCADA product and the Calendar options have become one of the most popular options leading to increased product sales.
- Conceived and developed USDATA’s REACT, industry’s first configurable HMI for PLCs. Designed hardware and software architectures including computer backplane, solid state disk drives, PLC communication, user configurable GUI / HMI editor and runtime and scripting environments. Both REACT and FactoryLink were cited as “Top Technologies and events” in ISA’s 50th anniversary edition of their magazine INTECH.
- Designed networking product that allows multiple redundant master control systems (i.e. SCADA, HMI) to monitor and share multiple controllers (i.e. PLCs) and other peripheral devices (US Patent 4,551,831). The PEX-1 product benefited manufacturing customers by increasing control system reliability and resulting manufacturing uptime and benefited the automation vendors by facilitating more sales per customer.
- Designed and coded modules for FactoryLink and WinCC to add real-time 3D visualization that supports Siemens JT multi-CAD 3D file format and delivered to customers. Developed value propositions, presentations and white papers showing the benefits of 3D in manufacturing operations as a component of Siemens’ Digital Enterprise platform.
