Just spotted that iiNet is no longer offering or advertising their cable max broadband plan(s). I'm on the one with 400mbps evening speeds, have been for years but their website has no mention of it anymore, it's now being advertised as Ultra Cable broadband with 90mbps evening speeds....

Any specific end goal or reason? You're likely going to get a whole lot of different results from those who oblige you covering all of Australia using different services which wont prove much of anything if you're looking purely at speeds.

I would have thought that iinet's own servers would be faster than a third parties network, and thought that this might be a symptom pointing to my speed issues.

So far I'd say the FTP test would give you a more accurate representation rather than a web browser-based test. Definitely looking more like a symptom of something on your connection if those aren't the speeds you're meant to be pulling.

I've always found that the speed from was pretty slow in the evenings (i.e. typically i would get a max of 180KB/s per single download). I would get slow speeds from that site but could still get good speeds from other external sites so honestly not sure it's a great reference

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) released its first results from its Measuring Broadband Australia speed monitoring program and the results are generally positive, with NBN broadband services from iiNet, Optus, Telstra and TPG delivering between 80 per cent and just over 90 per cent of maximum plan speeds during peak times (7-11pm).
