The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) is a premier professional organization in India dedicated to the advancement of metallurgy and materials science. Established in 1946-47 and headquartered in Kolkata, IIM was founded to bring together professionals from industry, academia, and research institutions to promote knowledge sharing and technological progress in the field of metals and materials. Over the decades, it has grown into a robust network with thousands of members and more than 50 chapters across the country, providing a strong platform for collaboration and professional development. The institute fosters strong industry–academia interaction by organizing national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and training programs, including flagship events such as National Metallurgists’ Day (NMD). It also contributes significantly to technical education and knowledge dissemination through its publications, journals, and certification programs.
