IIFM Building History Project

About the Project

The Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) building is one of its kind in the country. It was designed by one of the most celebrated and globally recognized architect - Prof. Anant Raje. The architecture of the IIFM building has found mention in many architecture books including the Oxford Dictionary of Architecture. It is also taught in many architecture courses across the country. Prof. Raje shared the design philosophy of the IIFM building in a paper that he published in the Journal of the Indian Institute of Architects in 1992. The cover of the journal also carried the photo of the IIFM building. A recent article (January, 2019) in the Indian express also provides some insights into Prof. Raje visionary design of the IIFM building.

We at IIFM are blessed to be working in a building that has such a rich legacy. Many students , teachers , visitors , employees have used the IIFM buildings and might have pictures of the building. We hope to collect all these pictures and stories (oral history) behind those pictures and in due course create a small IIFM building interpretation center that has original drawings, video recordings of people who worked with Prof. Raje, podcasts, a collection of photographs from people who visited or used the IIFM buildings and most importantly pay our tribute to Prof. Raje for this beautiful building and campus.
