Opportunities in Indian AMEs in the Domestic and International Market

The aviation sector is witnessing rapid developments, both in India as well as in the rest of the world. This is primarily so because the aviation sector is one of the most profitable sectors, making tons of money. And with most of the world's population gaining momentum and rising out of poverty, it will only be wise to say the coming years will see a massive growth in the aviation sector.

To compensate for the influx of human traffic at the airports worldwide, not only are the airlines adding up tons of aircrafts to their fleet, in fact, more and more new airlines are coming up. And in such a scenario, the demand for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers is bound to grow.

Currently, the total number of aircrafts operating globally is around 500000 (passenger and cargo aircrafts) and around 40 lakh smaller, private aircrafts. And to state the obvious, each and every of these airports requires maintenance. The business of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is enormous, globally. And it's nowhere near to halting. In fact, it's all geared up to expand and make more and more profit.

Due to the liberalization policies of governments all over the world, there is a humongous scope of growth in the civil aviation sector, and that calls for more and more licensed aircraft engineers.

To all those who are interested the aviation sector, the aircraft maintenance course or the AME Course is a 3-year certification course that is necessary for obtaining the license.

Obtaining the AME license is pivotal if you want to become an aircraft maintenance engineer. Here's how you do that.

First of all, you need to enroll yourself in an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Training Institute that is acknowledged and approved by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation). This is particularly important because only they can provide the necessary knowledge you'd need to clear the Associate Membership Exam Certification conducted by the Aeronautical Society of India.

After clearing the first 3 papers of the aviation course, one is eligible to obtain the BAMEC (Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Certification), which makes you eligible for applying for industry jobs. However, the cherry on the cake is the AME license, which you can only get after clearing the 4th exam in your chosen field and the oral examination.

To all those wondering, becoming an aircraft maintenance engineer is as prestigious as it can get. It's a tough nut to crack. There's a lack of reputed AME institutions. And it leaves one responsible for the lives of countless people. So I'd only suggest you to think a thousand times before you tread on this path.
