IHES is a non-profit organization, working to strengthen home economics professionals and programming in less developed countries.
IHES seeks to:
• Strengthen or develop formal and non-formal home economics programs focused on family life in less developed countries;
• Disseminate knowledge and skills in home economics to enhance the social, economic, cognitive, emotional and physical wellbeing of individuals and families;
• Manage the Disaster Assistance Partnerships (DAP) that assist in rebuilding home economics programs following natural disasters; and
• Increase US home economists understanding and acceptance of different cultures by conducting projects.
IHES works through a network of home economics professionals. When a request is received from a home economist in a developing country, IHES carries out its purposes by:
• Providing technical assistance;
• Using a team approach to plan and implement programs in the targeted country;
• Linking with other organizations that share a common mission;
• Supporting professional development and networking; and/or
• Providing support to professionals for their continuing education and professional development.
