Where do I check-in/check-out?
Check-in at the Courthouse (at the reception area in the atrium) or City Hall (at printer on the front desk). Nikki will personally show you the location in the Courthouse when you are entered into the system as "hired".
Note: It also looks like you can check-in/out using the other in-game allowlist job "hotspots" in the city. Nikki is getting clarity on whether that's ok or a bug.
When do I check-in/out?
If you are doing anything with regards to your role, lawyer, clerk, admin assistant, etc. you can check-in. At the post office, sending letters out to clients? That counts. Getting the legal documents together for lawyers or clients to use? That counts. The only thing we ask is that you do as much as possible IC for the role and don't power game the system.
Why am I listed as an "Attorney" in the system, when I'm not one?
The in-game system has some things we need to clean up and get clarity on. For now, despite your IC role, everyone is in the system as an "Attorney".
Where do we meet IC?
The primary location for all lawyers are the offices on the 1st floor of City Hall. It's free for us to use and it's spacious enough for lawyers, DOJ, and others to do business and not be on top of each other. The members of Office Management & Administration and Nikki are also primarily here, but Court Recorders and other clerks will be based out of the offices at the Courthouse.
I know someone who is interested in RP'ing in the DOJ or becoming a lawyer, what should they do?
If they are already allowlisted on the Discord, please have them go through the DOJ Application Process
Also, if you meet anyone IC that is interested in joining the DOJ or becoming a lawyer have them come to City Hall IC to ask to be interviewed. The still need to go through the Discord application process OOC, but we can fast-track them.
How do I get a specific template for something I'm working on with a client?
Let anyone in the Office Management & Administration staff know what you need. The more details the better.
What if I already have my own templates?
Please share them to the Office Management & Administration staff. They'll make sure they get "sanitized" to make the wording applicable in-game/IC, that they can be "printed" cleanly for you, etc. They'll also be sure to link to it on this site for others to use.
What do I do if I need a print out of a document from The Printer™ for RP purposes?
Right now we have the only functioning printer in the city and no printer paper in-game yet (so printing is limited). So, please let the Office Management & Administration staff know IC if you need a "printed document" for RP.
Note: The Printer™ is only a mechanic to help facilitate the RP with other people. It's not an actual system, like the MDT used by LSSD. You can only "give" printed documents to a client and "use" them in-game.
I'm a licensed lawyer in the City of Los Santos, does that mean I'm automatically a member of the DOJ?
The short answer is, no. We have people who want to RP running their own private practice, while we have others who only want to work for the DOJ proper. Currently, the only requirement being made of Los Santos lawyers is that they pass the "mini-bar" to get licensed.
But, what if being an attorney general for DOJ in the past is in my character's backstory?
We never ever want to hamper or stall anyone's RP. Our goal is to have all lawyers as engaged as possible in-game. So, if the DOJ doesn't have cases, then there is nothing for the attorney generals to do. At this time, as the server is growing and people are learning about who the DOJ are and what we all do, all lawyers will be encouraged to pursue private practice. The DOJ may call upon a lawyer to respresent a citizen or the city/state. When/If the cases start rolling in, we will give the people who want it more permanent positions under the Attorney General's Office within the DOJ.
Can I be a judge?
Eventually, yes. Judges are appointed. Also, just like for attorney generals at this time, we don't want to stall your character's RP in any way. If there are no cases going to a hearing or trial, then there is no need for a judge. Also, if you want to be a full-time judge, then you won't be able to practice privately as a lawyer. So, for now, we will only be assigning temporary judges whenever the situation requires it.
