Above all else, your security camera system should be one of the most secure parts of your home or business for maximum effectiveness. While the products above require more specific versions of the programs or tools, most manufacturers offer their CCTV firmware for free on the main site or one specially designed for the distribution of such programs. Below you will find each brand and the source of each firmware database.

Firmware is a program built into hardware like flash ROMs and can be an example of a basic input/output system or BIOS. In the case of CCTV firmware, it is the programming that allows for functionality from your security cameras and recorders. In IP cameras specifically, the programming is found in the microprocessor and allows for commands made in the interface to be put into action. CCTV firmware is also responsible for automated functions like algorithms going into noise reduction, autofocus, digital WDR, and more.

Whether through your recorder or computer, it is easy to update each of your security cameras. Typically, you will need to toggle through the menus and find where the CCTV firmware of each device is stored. Then reference the current firmware on the sites above, downloading which is higher than yours currently. Download the CCTV firmware onto your camera (if it is not automated) and then wait until the camera or system restarts completely. The firmware should now be updated.

I have a ACTi-I92 PTZ(Pan Tilt Zoom) security camera.

but the standard firmware is really trash and actually doesn't even really work anymore with normal modern computers, since the firmware expects you to use windows as well as to use a old version of internet explore so old that even the windows compatibility layer for internet explorer pages doesn't support some of the needed functions anymore making it so that you can log in and change settings. but not vieuw the camera, or controll it anymore.

using it in software like VLC and OBS also doesn't work with that camera firmware.

I can possibly still try setting up NVR software on some old laptop or such, but since it is mostly just to test this system first I want to first use it in a way where you can directly controll it and check all the functions.(note I got this camera from some company which changed their security system, they where gonna throw them away so I got this one.

also to know if it actually works or not, since if it is broken I will likely replace some parts and turn it into some kind of robot fpv or ai turret or such, or just make my own camera system and system for controlling the motors and such and replacing the current one with that, but the camera sensor I plan to place in it if the current hardware is broken is of only 640p so much lower than 2mp, so I preffer to first see if it can actually work normally.

Welcome to the Roku Community!

We understand you're having a problem with the Roku smart home app since it will not give notifications. We're happy to assist you. We would recommend ensuring notifications are enabled on both the main menu of the Roku Smart Home app and within the camera settings.

I have made sure notifications are on in the app and the cameras settings. Deleted camera and completed setup, made sure AGAIN that notifications were turned on in the app and the camera settings. Nothing, no notifications still. Forced to do the firmware update and now I get no notifications at all. Cameras are unless without the notifications. Might have to look into another brand. I feel like I wasted a bunch of money on your cameras ( two floodlight cameras & 3 indoor cameras) that won't send notifications after firmware update. I guess I'm more than a little ticked off.

I am looking for security cameras that run open source software, drivers and hardware that works with Home Assistant. I am trying to avoid cameras that could have any potential spyware style software in them.

The inexpensive Wyze cameras version 2 and the Wyze Pan can be loaded with DaFang firmware, which will work locally without requiring an internet connection, then the cameras can be connected to the MotionEye Add-on running in Home Assistant. This is a quick, cheap, DIY solution. However, I would highly recommend researching high resolution wired cameras (POE) with color night sensors, and a dedicated NVR for the best quality video. I use both of these types of solutions.

Yes, a Wifi wireless network will eventually reach its maximum capacity with enough cameras transmitting video data, as will a wired network. The difference is that usually a wired network will have much greater video surveillance bandwidth and is less susceptible to interference, and the disruption is causes, than a WiFi wireless network. This means that more vides cameras, with higher resolutions, can be supported on a wired network than a wireless network.

Hello @Johnnie,

It is likely that the new camera you got has a different version of the chipset. However, manual firmware updates or going back to a previous version of firmware is not possible. Nowadays, the firmware update is provided over the air within the app. If the app detects a firmware is available for the camera, a prompt will be provided to the user to perform the update.

I may suggest contacting support for options regarding the camera, you can send them an email at Support@yitechnology.com

It appears it is not advantages to upgrade the firmware. Yi/Kami are looking for profits and it appears this is how they do it. Sell you something, upgrade the firmware and take away features to force you to buy their plans in order to add those features back along with others you never had. I have 10 cameras on their plans and I have detection for vehicles, animals and people along with a lot of review speeds. I guess were stuck with just buying their cloud plans or go to a different camera manufacturer.

Yes, I agree. I updated my outdated V1 cameras over a year ago after hearing that the newer models now include AI detection for people. Now they are taking away that feature after I spent all the money to upgrade. I am changing my reviews to a 1 also.

I have tested some older versions of the Yi Home app. The last working one with person detection and region setting is the YI Home 5.5.6_20220419072150.

Available among others here: -vision/yi-home-2/yi-home-2-5-5-6_20220419072150-release/

The cameras need to be setup using 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network.

I fell into this trap.

My iphone usually run on the 5ghz network.

Drop them down to the 2.4ghz, setup cameras.

Once they are setup and working you can go back onto the 5ghz network on your phone and view all your cameras from the Yi app

All I can tell you from my iOS experience

I have to put my iPhones on 2.4ghz to install the cameras thru the YI app

Once installed, I turn my iphones back onto the 5ghz signal and have no issues.

I have kinda the same issue. At 6:35pm central daylight time last Thursday, all my cameras quit working. Earlier that day ( 4:30PM I made some changes to my network settings to install a extender. Prior to that the cameras worked fine, all my other devices connected to the router work fine, I went through all the possible trouble shooting on the Yi website. I made one change ( took the special character out of my password, and the camera still says it has a password error???

You can protect your surveillance camera system, however, by following a number of information security best practices. Three fundamental methods to keep bad actors out are authentication, user authorizations, and access controls. Altogether these protocols, supported by timely firmware and app updates, audit logs, penetration testing, and other advanced protection methods, can help keep your firmware and your whole video security system safe.

When it comes to firmware and app logins, user sessions should also have built-in time-outs and lockouts after a certain period of inactivity. On top of establishing strong user verification processes, this will help prevent unauthorized users from accessing your surveillance firmware and exploiting any vulnerabilities that may exist.

Protecting firmware from hackers requires a comprehensive security strategy across the entire system and network. When safeguarding your firmware, there are at least three things you must incorporate: strong access control through authentication and authorization, timely firmware updates, and ongoing penetration testing.

Access control is critical to preventing malicious actors from entering your systems and manipulating firmware or otherwise infecting your network. At a minimum, companies should make sure they use a combination of three strategies to restrict access: user authentication, user authorization, and role-based access control (RBAC).

Audit logs should be as thorough as necessary and fully meet any compliance requirements in your industry. But, at a minimum, they will include data related to user logins, user management, camera movement, organization creation, site creation, and group creation.

Like Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication strategy that enables more secure access to security camera firmware and networks. But they are not the same. Among the differences, SSO relies on SAML/OAuth providers to grant authentication, including Okta, Onelogin, Google Business Apps and Azure Active Directory.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a secure way to authenticate user access to IP camera firmware or an IP camera app. It works by forcing any user to validate their identity and login attempt through a secondary method in addition to a simple password. The result is that it is much harder for any malicious actor to force their way into the system.

NOTE: If the current firmware version on your camera is lower than 20130812, you must first install version 20130812. After that update is complete, you can upgrade your firmware to the latest version.

I have one camera that is doing the same thing. I got a notice to up date today and did. Then the camera would not reboot. I unplugged it and still it will not reboot. Every time it does this I have to uninstall and re-install the camera. This is getting very old. 2351a5e196
