it all begins with a little curiosity.
Ask questions. Research. Innovate. Make a difference.

Hola.
My name is Ignacio Cruz and I am a Ph.D. Candidate and Assistant Lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.
As a communication scientist, my research specializes in AI@Work, or human-AI interaction. My dissertation explores the cognitive + social processes that impact decision-making and biases when humans work alongside and with smart technologies and algorithms. I aim to defend my dissertation by May 2021.
I merge perspectives from human-AI interaction, organizational communication, and social psychology to understand how to design automation technology that promotes equity, performance, and innovation. I am a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow, which has allowed my current research to be funded by the NSF.
My work has been published in various international journals and I frequently present my latest thinking at academic and professional meetings.
