Keynote Speaker

Matthijs van Otegem

Matthijs van Otegem is the University Librarian at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. After his Ph.D. in Philosophy, he worked for twelve years at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in various positions. From 2013 to 2022 he was director of the library of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His main interests are digitization and open scholarship and how these two trends affect the role of libraries. 

 

 

Jung Mi Scoulas

Jung Mi Scoulas is an assistant professor and assessment coordinator at University of Illinois Chicago Library. She holds a PhD in educational psychology and specializes in library assessment, research design, and student learning. Her research examines the impact of library experiences on students' academic success, and she has published nationally and internationally. Recently, as the leader of a research project focused on developing assessment tools to understand students' academic engagement, she successfully secured a $250,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Information Science."  She is also the Research Scholar at the Association of Research Libraries Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Institute Task Force, providing experience in qualitative and quantitative research approaches linked to curriculum, evaluation, results, and impact. She is a chair of the Association of College and Research Libraries Value of Academic Libraries Committee for 2022-2023. She also serves as a column editor of Strategic Planning and Assessment at the Journal of Library Administration.

 

 

Jingjing Wu

Jingjing Wu is the Web librarian at the Texas Tech University Libraries. She earned her Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and her Bachelor of Engineering in Optical Instrumentation with a minor in Information Science from Zhejiang University. She began her path to librarianship as an assistant librarian at the Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her current research interests include web technologies and data visualization.

 

 

C. Colleen Cook

Colleen Cook began her career as a librarian at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, in positions dealing with acquisitions, circulation, bibliographic access and automation.  She served as Executive Associate Dean from 1994 to 2003 when she was appointed the Sterling C. Evans Endowed Chair and Dean of Libraries.  In 2011 she became the Trenholme Dean of Libraries and Archives at McGill University, Montreal, serving until 2022. She continues as a Full Librarian at the McGill Library and as a Full Professor in McGill’s School of Information Studies.

Colleen’s research interests center around program assessment and evaluation. Her dissertation served as the basis for the LibQual+ Service Quality evaluation instrument managed through the Association of Research Libraries., (ARL), LibQual+ has been used by hundreds of libraries globally to justify, assess, and manage library building projects, collections content and access, and service programs. She has an extensive record of publications (Scopus H Index – 24) and over 100 invited and juried presentations at international venues. 

Largely mirroring her research interests, Colleen’s service contributions include serving as member or chair of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), ARL and Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) committees on statistics, evaluation, and research. She has served as a member of the ARL Board and served as a reviewer of libraries at research university libraries in the United States and Canada.

Hanrong Wang

Prof. Hanrong Wang has extensive experience working as a reference/subject librarian in an academic library setting. With over twenty years of experience, she has honed her expertise in collection development and assessment, library instruction, as well as reference and research assistance. Her contributions to the field of librarianship and education are evident in her numerous publications. In addition to her written works, Prof. Wang is also an accomplished speaker, having presented at various professional conferences on both regional and international platforms.

 

 

Donald L. Gilstrap

Donald L. Gilstrap (PhD) is Dean of University Libraries and Professor of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Technology Studies at The University of Alabama.  His published scholarship has focused on research methods, leadership and organizational dynamics, assessment, and nonlinear dynamics.  As a researcher and teacher of statistics for over 15 years, his pedagogy focuses on making statistics understandable and fun for all. 

 

 

Hela Ojasaar

In the National Library of Estonia I am responsible for the quality assurance and performance measurement activities. My everyday work is related to collecting, evaluating and using library statistics and key performance indicators which are necessary for the effective management of the services and the whole library. My task is also to monitor the quality of services and service providing by the Net Promoter Score (NPS) method.

 

One of the most challenging steps for me has been implementing quantative and qualitative measures and methods according to the needs of the NLE for using in strategic planning or outcome and operational decision making.

 

I am also involved in coordinating and carrying through training programmes for the service managers in order to support them in measuring, managing and developing their services.

 

 

Paul Pival

Paul is the Research Librarian for Data Analytics with Libraries and Cultural Resources at the University of Calgary. He’s a certified expert for NVivo and provides training and support for that software on campus. Prior to his current role, he served as LCR’s Web-Services Librarian, and Distance Education Librarian (well before Zoom). Paul is an avid cyclist and looks forward to trying the flat roads of the Netherlands.

 

 

Christine Brown

Dr. Christine Brown has spent most of her career working in academic libraries. She has also worked as a public library director (Leduc Public Library) and assistant professor of library and information studies (University of Alabama). She is currently the Head of Faculty Engagement (Social Sciences, Humanities, Business, & Law) and Chair of the Assessment & Insight Team at the University of Alberta Library.  Her professional and research interests involve information services, information-seeking behaviour and the adoption/use of new technologies.  Her many contributions to the work of professional organizations include the American Library Association, the International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions, the Edmonton Law Libraries Association, and the Greater Edmonton Library Association.

 

 

Lisa Hinchliffe

Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe is Professor and Coordinator for Research and Teaching Professional Development in the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As the 2010-2011 President of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in the United States, Lisa led the launch the ACRL Value of Academic Libraries Initiative. Since that time, she has co-led the design and implementation of ACRL’s Assessment in Action program, funded in part by IMLS, and was the Co-PI and lead curriculum developer and program facilitator for the IMLS-funded CARLI Counts: Analytics and Advocacy project. Lisa is also an affiliate faculty member in the University’s School of Information Sciences where she teaches IS594EV: Evaluation and Assessment of Library Services.  Her website is at http://lisahinchliffe.com.

 

 

Carli Spina

Carli Spina is an Associate Professor and the Head of Research & Instructional Services at the Fashion Institute of Technology Library, a State University of New York (SUNY) institution. Prior to this position, she was the Head Librarian, Assessment & Outreach at the Boston College Libraries. She is an expert on topics related to accessibility, assessment, and evaluation and was the co-chair of the SUNY Library Accessibility Cohort, which developed a detailed workflow for evaluating e-resources for accessibility. She regularly publishes, teaches, and presents on topics related to accessibility, Universal Design, and library leadership. 

 

 

Jan de Boer

Jan de Boer works at Utrecht University Library as a publishing consultant and subject specialist in Social Sciences. He is involved in open access monitoring at Utrecht University and has contributed to the Utrecht University open access policy and strategy. 

 

 

Maria Constantin

Maria Constantin holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Amsterdam. Soon after, she joined Elsevier, as a scientific editor for one of their largest Open Access journals, Data in Brief. Currently, she is the Open Access Officer for the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University.
