In our second episode with the Building Construction program in the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades, I talk with professor Ethan Reynolds. Ethan graduated the program and immediately became a professor because of his natural teaching talent and excellent command of the skills he had learned.
Ethan talks about going from student to professor and what his first year of teaching was like.
We explore the uncertainty of taking up authority in the classroom and how transparency and honesty can make beginnings smoother.
We also talk a good bit about the skill of self-reflection when one is beginning a new project. We also talk about the essential role that reflection plays in teaching. Responding to students as they learn is a critical. Likewise, teaching always has a learning curve and responding to what we learn as teachers is also essential.
This is our last episode in our story series. We hope you've enjoyed hearing the what your fellow community members are beginning and we hope it's offered insight into beginnings at the college as well as in life.
