iEngage Summer Civics Institute

iEngage Summer Civics Institute is a free Civics day camp for rising 5th through 9th-grade students who want to learn how to make a difference in their school, neighborhood, and community. The camp utilizes an action civics inquiry model to foster participants’ understanding of and engagement in civic life. Participants build essential civic knowledge and skills by interacting with local civic leaders and elected officials, playing iCivics games, examining primary source materials at the Poage legislative library, collaborating with like-minded peers, and engaging in a community issues advocacy project.
The camp......
Develops young people’s civic and political competence.
Strengthens their community and political engagement through inquiry-based civics projects on community issues.
Teaches the structure of government and what it means to be an active, engaged citizen in their community.
Illustrate how they can work to make a change even as young people.
Recipient of the 2022 National Center for the State Courts Sandra Day O’Connor Award for the Advancement of Civic Education.
The Hatton W. Sumners Foundation generously funds this free institute.
