EVENT REPORT OF IEEE MANGALORE SUBSECTION
1. On the 23rd of February 2022, a one-day workshop was held at N.M.A.M Institute of Technology on “Crux of Blockchain Technology”. Dr Kiran M, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, Naonal Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal was the resource person accompanied by Mr Aman Kashyap and Mr Tyson Dcnha from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal. The participants were introduced to the basics of blockchain technology in two sessions that included coding a blockchain component called smart contract through REMIX-Ethereum IDE. At the end of the session, participants were assigned tasks to evaluate their understanding. The top two teams were awarded prizes.
2. On the 5th of March 2022, an online lecture on “Peripheral Vision-Computer Vision of the Edge'' was conducted by Amit Saha, Principal Engineer, Cisco Meraki, Bangalore. He is a part of the Camera Intelligence team that enables Cisco’s internal products as well as customers to beer manage their AI/ML life cycles by making it easier to train and tune models, and deploy distributed machine learning workloads. Through this lecture, he pointed out how peripheral vision is a bottleneck when it comes to human eyesight but signified how knowing the limitations of our vision helps us develop beer camera intelligence and AIS.
3. On the 8th of March 2022, on account of International Women’s Day, WIE IEEE MSS in association with IEEE student branch NMAMIT and HackerEarth Hub-NMAMIT held an online coding contest called “SHE-CODES”, exclusive to female students of all engineering branches. The coding questions were solved using an online code editor which supported several programming languages like C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
4. On the 8th of March 2022, a ‘Health Camp for Women in Campus’ was organized by IEEE WIE in association with Rotary Club Nie and N.M.A.M Institute of Technology. The health camp included several facilities like free ECG, RBS tests, general check-ups, etc. In the afternoon, various cultural programs and fun games were held at the Sambhram Auditorium, around 300 teaching and non-teaching staff participated and won exciting prizes. Several entrepreneurial women had set up various stalls showcasing food, imitation jewellery, sarees and more.
5. On the 11th of March 2022, a webinar on “Challenges of Women in Home and Work Balance” was conducted by Mrs Sampreetha Shiroor. She completed her BE in Information Science from RNSIT Bangalore and has 13+ years of professional experience in diverse areas of the IT Industry. She is currently leading the BI Reporting team at Allianz Technology SE in Germany. She is the CEO & Co-Founder of a non-profit organization called Shashaa e.V (Shashaa.org). Her message to the audience was “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”It was a well interactive session.
6. Between January and March 2022, three online sessions were organized by IEEE-MSS as a part of the Mangalore Technology Series (MTS) where industry experts in and around the Mangalore region were invited to engage in practical and interactive sessions on various topics. They are: -
I. Software Testing Roadmap with HandsOn STLC in JIRA held on January 29, 2022, by Shunga G K, Test Manager, Micro Degree.
II. Introduction to Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse held on February 26, 2022, by Ashlesh Malli, Senior Manager, Diya Systems.
III. Introduction to Animations in Fleur held on March 26, 2022, by Vaibhav Anchan, Mobile App Developer, Mindstack Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
