About

The Smart Grid has come to describe a next-generation electrical power system that is typified by the increased use of communications and information technology in the generation, delivery and consumption of electrical energy. The term Smart Grid refers to electricity networks that can intelligently integrate the behaviour and actions of all agents, i.e. generators, customers, service and information providers, allowing a less centralised and more consumer interactive paradigm for electric energy distribution.

The IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) encompasses a wide range of R&D areas that are fundamentally elated to Smart Grids, from Power and Energy to Communication and Information Technologies, and is well positioned to tackle large scale R&D issues in Smart Grids of cross-disciplinary nature that require an integrated multidisciplinary approach. Therefore, the IEEE IES Technical Committee (TC) on Smart Grids brings together expertise of IES members to address technical challenges from a system viewpoint for the advancement of Smart Grids technology. In this web-site you can find some information about the Activities being developed by this IEEE IES Technical Committee.

An overview of the TC is provided in the Presentation. If you wish to be involved in these Activities, please have a look at Processes!
