Accessibility, Transparency and Privacy for Personalised Healthcare from Lab to Life
December 15th Half-Day Workshop, Hong Kong
Accessibility, Transparency and Privacy for Personalised Healthcare from Lab to Life
December 15th Half-Day Workshop, Hong Kong
Welcome
AgeTech applications increasingly rely on wearable, mobile, home-based and robotic sensing systems that generate continuous multimodal data about physiology, behaviour, function and context. However, the translation of these systems into personalised healthcare for older adults and people with accessibility needs depends not only on accurate models, but also on accessible interaction, transparent AI, privacy-preserving data practices, interoperability and clinical relevance.
This half-day workshop will bring together researchers in biomedical and health informatics, wearable and pervasive sensing, AI/ML, human-computer interaction, assistive robotics, digital biomarkers, clinical translation and AgeTech. Invited talks, a poster session, interactive activity and a moderated discussion will examine how body sensor data can be transformed into trustworthy, interpretable and actionable informatics for ageing, rehabilitation, frailty, cardiovascular risk, cognitive support and independent living. The workshop will address multimodal data fusion, personalised and predictive modelling, explainable and causal AI, privacy-preserving analytics, LLM-enabled health interaction, with a specific focus on usability and user experience for older adults to ensure acceptance and trust.
The workshop will produce an AgeTech Sensor Informatics Translation Framework as part of a position paper, identifying methodological, ethical, accessibility and implementation requirements for moving intelligent sensing systems from laboratory prototypes to patient-centred, outcome-driven healthcare.
Workshop Rationale
This workshop is timely because AgeTech is moving from isolated assistive devices towards data-rich personalized healthcare ecosystems that integrate wearables, mobile health, home sensing, human-computer interfaces, telehealth, intelligent interventions and clinical decision support. This fits BHI 2026’s focus on AI, machine learning and health informatics that transform complex biomedical data into actionable insights for diagnosis, treatment and care.
This workshop's focus is on the informatics layer of AgeTech translation considering how multimodal sensor data from older adults’ daily lives becomes clinically meaningful, understandable, privacy-preserving and usable by patients, carers and healthcare professionals. Existing work often emphasises device performance or algorithmic accuracy, however this workshop foregrounds the socio-technical conditions required for adoption, such as accessibility, transparency, privacy, longitudinal engagement, digital inclusion and trust.
This workshop draws directly on IEEE AgeTech’s mission to improve independence, well-being, adoption, accessible design, datasets, road-mapping and standards gaps for ageing and accessibility-related technologies.
