Registration is reserved only to IDSIA PhD students.
You can take part in the event either as an attendee or as a presenter.
Talks should focus on giving an overview of your work to a broad audience. We encourage you to keep it accessible and not too technical. You may also include a presentation of you research group.
Maximum duration of the talks is 15 minutes, including questions.
Please note that the venue has limited capacity, so we might not be able to accommodate everyone. Priority will be given to presenters, while trying to ensure representation from all research groups of the institute.

09:30 - 10:00: What Next? Funding your career after the PhD (talk by A. Termine)
Abstract: Securing competitive research funding is a central challenge in an academic career, particularly at the early postdoctoral stage. Obtaining independent funding not only strengthens academic autonomy but is increasingly a formal requirement at many universities. A strong track record of successful grant applications is now as important as publications in leading journals and conferences for career progression. Yet, despite its importance, very little attention is given in most doctoral programmes to training PhD students in how to identify, manage, and successfully apply for grants. This talk provides an overview of the research funding landscape in Switzerland, with a focus on major national agencies and selected private foundations. We will examine key instruments offered by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) for individual researchers and highlight targeted grants and fellowships available through prominent private foundations. The session will also offer practical insights and suggestions on the essential steps to consider when preparing and submitting a competitive grant proposal.
