You can learn how to mix in 10 days,
but it will take you 10 years to reach the top 100
I reached 150 in just over 1 year
One of the most simple jobs in the world, has now become one of the most glamorous jobs. Only 10 years ago most kids in school where dreaming of becoming a Policeman, a Fireman, a Doctor, and some unfortunate ones even a Lawyer. However, that has changed. Today not only the kids in school dream of becoming the next number 1 DJ of the world. Mom and Dad secretly also share the same dream. For most of them the job of the DJ is to show up on time, mix a few tracks for one hour, and cash-in big time. Unfortunately this far from the reality.
All over the world DJ-Schools are popping up like mushrooms to supply the ever growing demand of dreamers, who now want to become a DJ. On Youtube, famous DJs give sponsored masterclasses and tutorials on a variety of topics ranging from DJ-techniques to music-production. The question now is, is this really all you need to know to become a professional DJ? The answer is NO.
The business of being a professional DJ seems easy, but has even proven to be deadly. Keep in mind that this business is based on the human emotion. A great asset for creativity, but also a disaster for stress. Everyone can buy a Pioneer DJ set, and learn to mix better than most top 10 DJs. Still only a selective few make it to the Top 100, and even less manage to maintain their position. So if you're not listed in the Top 100, what is it that you are missing out on?
DJ Mag Top 100
What is that?
That was the first question I asked when I was congratulated with my first entree at number 150 back in 2005.
