You are interested in tinkering together complex precision instruments that allow to explore the nano-scale?
Perfect, building and advancing these (and most of other modern machines) requires the full spectrum of classic engineering:
programming (design models)
optical design
fine mechanical design
electronics
programming (hardware)
control theory
You feel not certain about some of them? No problem, if there is time, there is nothing that passion can stop (well, money maybe). And otherwise there are also specialized topics that only involve a sub-set of the above to fit your passion - as long as you know yourself what your passion is.
Nevertheless, some expectations can be given upfront:
Thesis written in English (due to PI's limited Chinese skills)
Reproducible working developed system/instrument according to project topic
Clean Git-archive with all relevant design and usage files
Short introduction on how to use the system (different from thesis)
*additional requirements for graduation might apply as stated by the university for the respective major of the student.
The lab will be established this summer 2026. Hence, prospective members can only expect a start in late August 2026.
