I am a geometric topologist specializing in knot theory, braid groups, and low-dimensional topology. My research focuses on the construction of Jones-type invariants for knots and links in manifolds beyond the 3-sphere through skein modules, knot algebras, and Markov trace techniques.
My current work explores doubly periodic tangles, pseudo knots, bonded knots, and knotoids, alongside applications of Topological Data Analysis (TDA) to time series, finance, and complex systems. I am particularly interested in how topological structures capture persistence, uncertainty, and interaction across mathematics, physics, and economics.
I serve as Guest Editor for the Q1 journal Mathematics (MDPI), where I curate the Special Issue Mathematical Modeling of Complex Entangled Structures.
Academic Appointments
Assistant Professor, Department of Data Analytics & Digitalisation, Maastricht University, NL; since Nov. 2024
Lecturer, Department of Data Analytics & Digitalisation, Maastricht University, NL; Sept.2021--Oct.2024
Visiting Professor, International College Beijing, China Agricultural University, CN; Sept.2015-Aug.2021
Post-doc, School of Applied Mathematical & Physical Sciences, National Technical University of Athens, GR; Jan.2015--Dec.2015
I received my PhD in Pure Mathematics from the National Technical University of Athens in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Sofia Lambropoulou. My doctoral work computed the HOMFLYPT skein module of the lens spaces L(p,1) using braid-theoretic methods.
Following my PhD, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at NTUA within the EU-funded THALES programme, collaborating with an international network of researchers. In the same year, I participated in a Research in Pairs programme at the Mathematical Research Institute Oberwolfach (MFO), Germany, together with Prof. Lambropoulou and Dr. Boštjan Gabrovšek.
Between 2015 and 2021, I served as Visiting Professor at China Agricultural University in Beijing, where I received two Teaching Awards (2018, 2019) and two Research Awards (2017, 2020). During this period, I co-organized a seminar series in low-dimensional topology and published the monograph Sequences and Series, based on lectures delivered at CAU.
Since joining Maastricht University in 2021, I have been actively involved in teaching innovation, student supervision, and interdisciplinary research at the School of Business and Economics. I obtained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) in November 2024 and currently serve as Executive Director of the Mathematics Center Maastricht.
