I am a geometric topologist specializing in knot theory, braid groups, and 3-manifolds. My research centers on constructing Jones-type invariants for knots and links in manifolds beyond the 3-sphere through skein modules, knot algebras, and Markov traces.
I currently explore the fascinating worlds of Doubly Periodic Tangles, Pseudo Knots, Bonded Knots, Knotoids, and Topological Data Analysis (TDA); investigating how topological methods reveal structure and uncertainty across mathematics, physics, and economics.
When I’m not wrestling with these topological puzzles, I serve as Guest Editor for the Mathematics journal (Q1, MDPI), curating the special issue “Mathematical Modeling of Complex Entangled Structures.”

Assistant Professor, Department of Data Analytics & Digitalisation, Maastricht University, NL; since Nov. 2024
Lecturer, Department of Data Analytics & Digitalisation, Maastricht University, NL; Sept.2021--Oct.2024
Visiting Professor, China Agricultural University, nternational College Beijing, CN; Sept.2015-Aug.2021
Post-doc, School of Applied Mathematical & Physical Sciences, National Technical University of Athens, GR; Jan.2015--Dec.2015
I received my PhD in Pure Mathematics from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Sofia Lambropoulou. My dissertation computed the HOMFLYPT skein module of the lens spaces L(p, 1) using braid methods.
In 2015, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at NTUA within the EU-funded THALES program, collaborating with 56 researchers worldwide. That same year, I joined Prof. Lambropoulou and Dr. Boštjan Gabrovšek for a Research in Pairs project at MFO Oberwolfach, Germany.
Between 2015 – 2021, I served as Visiting Professor at China Agricultural University, ranked among the world’s top institutions in agricultural sciences. During this period I received:
🏅 Two Teaching Awards (2018, 2019)
🏅 Two Research Awards (2017, 2020)
and co-organized a seminar series on low-dimensional topology. In 2019, I published the monograph Sequences and Series, inspired by lectures delivered at CAU.
Since joining Maastricht University in 2021, I have been deeply engaged in teaching, supervision, and research at the School of Business and Economics (SBE). I earned my University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) in November 2024 and serve as Executive Director of the Mathematics Center Maastricht (MCM).
