Assignments

• Exercises based on L&J, Chap 1. Do EX A-E, J-K ONLY  (complete by Tuesday Jan. 16)
  If you are using Chrome, after you get enough correct answers ypu will get  completion certificate, and that's how you know you are done. You don't need to send me the certificate.
  On Safari, the completion certificate may not be working. So just keep going until you succed in getting an entire "run" correct. (Information about number correct and run number can be found at the bottom of the page.

Week 5

Assignments

• Gesture Segmentation 2 Submit to depository by 8pm Monday 12 Feb.
  You will analyze once gain the sentence: "The meal was cooked before the bell rang." This time produced by different speaker. and you will analyze that speaker producing the sentence at two different speaking rates: normal (N) and fast (F).
  Procedure:

  1. Download  cooked3.Collection which contains audio and blank TextGrids for both utterances.

  2. Open the file in Praat and follow instructions here for setting up Praat for this kind of data, as you did last time.

  3. Segment the audio into both words and segments, just as you did for the previous speaker.

  4. Segment the gestures for the stops and fricatives (except θ and ð) as you did in the previous exercise, for both utterances. 

  5. Note for the fast production, you may not hear the final [t] of the word "cooked", or see it in the acoustic signal. But see if you can find the Tongue Tip gesture for that consonant anyway. Why don't we hear it?
