As you do the reading, make sure you listen to the vowel examples of both speakers here (American and British) and can hear the differences that result in the different vowel symbol transcriptions (American in Column 1, British in Column 2). To hear the examples, click one any one of the word columns. Click [change the talker] to switch from American to British.

Exercise D. Listen to all the audio clips, and attempt to capture the different pronunciations of the British and American speakers using different transcriptions. You should hear some clear differences in 32-35 and 37. Enter your transcriptions using this Google form and submit by 5 pm Wed 31 Jan. Responses will not be graded automatically. We will go through this material in class on Thursday 1 Feb.

Gesture Segmentation 2 Submit to depository by 8pm Monday 12 Feb.
You will analyze once gain the sentence: "The meal was cooked before the bell rang." This time produced by different speaker. and you will analyze that speaker producing the sentence at two different speaking rates: normal (N) and fast (F).
Procedure:
Download cooked3.Collection which contains audio and blank TextGrids for both utterances.
Open the file in Praat and follow instructions here for setting up Praat for this kind of data, as you did last time.
Segment the audio into both words and segments, just as you did for the previous speaker.
Segment the gestures for the stops and fricatives (except θ and ð) as you did in the previous exercise, for both utterances.
Note for the fast production, you may not hear the final [t] of the word "cooked", or see it in the acoustic signal. But see if you can find the Tongue Tip gesture for that consonant anyway. Why don't we hear it?
