IDEEA

Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity

in European Astronomy

Welcome

Astronomy, like many fields, suffers from a long-standing bias which has resulted in the field appearing overwhelmingly white, male, abled and straight. There is still much work to be done to provide equal opportunities and equal outcomes within astronomy, increase diversity, and improve the experience of those from underrepresented groups within the field.

In forming IDEEA, we hope to create a community which can support and uplift those working in astronomy. Each world region has its own history, which has led to its current state of equity, and therefore astronomers working in these regions will have different experiences. This group focusses on discussing the experiences, status of diversity, and changes that need to be made in European astronomy. As a result, our meetings are arranged in times-zones suited for those living in Europe and the resources discussed focus on studies done on European astronomy.

This group is open to anyone. If you are interested in learning more about diversity, equity, and inclusion, and want to take action, we would love to have you join our community!

What do we do?

Monthly Meetings

We build our recurring meetings around a specific paper, video or other resource related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, enabling us to have discussions.

A Place to Talk

Our Slack community is a space where people can have open discussions about the resources presented at meetings, as well as their experiences in astronomy, issues they may face, and actions they want to take.

Sharing Resources

We collate resources relevant to diversity, equity, and inclusion in European astronomy for all to access via our website.
