Saptarshi Bej, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator

Saptarshi Bej acquired his master’s degree at IISER-Kolkata in Mathematics, with a specialization in graph theory. He worked as a research assistant briefly at the University of Paderborn, Germany. Later, he joined the Systems Biology and Bioinformatics group at the University of Rostock, Germany, in January 2018, where he worked alongside Prof. Olaf Wolkenhauer for five years. There he did research on Machine Learning (ML) and its diverse applications in clinical and bio-medical fields. He won the DAAD prize awarded (to international students with exceptional academic records) by the University of Rostock in 2020 and obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Rostock, Germany, in January 2022. He is currently focusing on developing machine learning algorithms for node representation learning, missing data imputation, anomaly detection, short multivariate time series classification etc. while occasionally exploring their applications in biomedical problems.

Masters Students

Our lab primarily hosts Master’s students from the School of Data Science at IISER Thiruvananthapuram. While many students carry out their research projects within the IDEA Lab, some also pursue projects under external supervisors, with local academic guidance and mentorship provided by Dr. Saptarshi Bej.
