Privacy Policy — Idea Capture
Last updated: August 2, 2026
Idea Capture is a Chrome extension that lets users instantly save text notes and screenshots as "ideas" while browsing. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.
No data collection
Idea Capture does not collect, transmit, or sell any user data to us or to any third party. The extension has no backend server, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
Local storage only
All content you capture — text notes, screenshots, tags, source page URL/title, and timestamps — is stored exclusively on your own device using the browser's chrome.storage.local API. This data never leaves your browser.
Permissions
storage — to save your captured ideas locally.
activeTab / tabs — to read the current tab's URL/title and to capture a screenshot of the visible tab when you choose to attach one.
scripting — to display the floating capture overlay on the page you're viewing when triggered.
contextMenus — to add the "Save selection as idea" and "Save screenshot as idea" right-click menu options.
host permission (all sites) — so the capture overlay can be shown on any website you're browsing, since ideas can occur anywhere.
Your control over your data
You can export all your saved ideas as a JSON file at any time, or import a previously exported file, from the Notes library page. Uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all locally stored data.
Changes to this policy
