Robotics, AI, and Humans—A Roadmap to Human-Centered Application Development
Robotics, AI, and Humans—A Roadmap to Human-Centered Application Development
We hereby invite position papers for our ICSR workshop on:
to be held at the ICSR Conference in Odense, Denmark, October 23rd, 2024.
The workshop addresses our acute lack of a concrete roadmap for how to produce truly ‘human-centered’ applications of robotics and AI, that is, applications that both serve human well-being and preserve or enhance central ethical and socio-cultural values. To be sure, there are various design strategies—from “value-sensitive design”, “design for values”, “responsible AI”, to the “IEEE Global Initiative Ethically Aligned Design”—which provide important guidance on how to translate values into design requirements for robotics and AI in general; moreover, so called “care-ethical value-sensitive design” or “Integrative Social Robotics” describe generic procedures for how and where value considerations should enter the R&D processes for applications of social robotics. However, what social robotics still lacks is a description of concrete procedures for the development of applications that take the human factor of this technology really seriously.
We are inviting brief position papers and active participation in the discussion and the co-design sessions during which a first draft of large areas of the roadmap shall be produced. Confirmed participants include: Aurelie Clodic (Robotics), Kerstin Fischer (HRI), Majken Rasmussen (Design), Johanna Seibt (robophilosophy), Christina Vestergaard (Techno-anthropology), Malene Damholdt (psychology). The workshop will be a half-day workshop at the ICSR Conference in Odense, October 23rd, 2024.
Abstracts of 500 words should be mailed to Aurélie Clodic <aurelie.clodic@laas.fr> by October 15th for short presentations in the workshop; active participation in the workshop simply requires registration on the conference website.
Looking forward to seeing you in Odense,
Aurélie Clodic, Kerstin Fischer and Johanna Seibt.
