Welcome Message from the local committee:
The ICSDS local committee would like to give you some information regarding the first part of the social event organized in Palazzo Vecchio on the 14th of December, together with some suggestions of cultural activities that Florence can offer you.
A preliminary note on Palazzo Vecchio:
Palazzo Vecchio is one of the symbols of Florence and has always been, and still is today, the seat of the city government. It is a medieval building, built in the thirteenth century on a design by Arnolfo di Cambio. The richness of the interior is instead due to Giorgio Vasari, a Renaissance Master, who worked as a painter, architect, engineer, writer, and historian and who also designed the Salone dei Cinquecento.
The Salone dei Cinquecento is part of the Palazzo Vecchio Museum and was reserved for our exclusive use on the 14th of December starting from 5PM.
All banquet tickets holders have free entrance to Palazzo Vecchio starting from 5PM with a complimentary presentation by "Giorgio Vasari" concentrated in Salone dei Cinquecento from 5:15PM to 5:45 PM.
A guided tour to the whole Museum can be reserved (first come, first served) for a limited number of banquet ticket holders from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.
Those of you interested should write to datascience@unifi.it by 11AM CET December 7th. We will answer your request by e-mail, giving you booking confirmation.

Weather information
Temperatures forecast for December 12-16th in Florence are 0-to-6 degrees celsius (32-to-43 Fahrenheit), with maximum peaks at 10-13 degrees celsius (50-55 Fahrenheit) and the possibility of rain. Please make sure you are prepared for the (relatively) cold weather and bring an umbrella with you!
Restaurant Recommendation
Florence offers a wide range of restaurants and street food, we are enclosing a list of restaurants limited to the area where the conference takes place and the close area of the Mercato Centrale, that you can use for both lunches and dinners.
Other areas of Florence where you can find a concentration of good traditional Italian, Florentine, Ethnic restaurants and pizzeria are: Via de' Neri, Borgo San Lorenzo, Mercato Sant'Ambrogio, Borgo San Frediano, Piazza Santo Spirito.
