PROF. DR. JOHN SCHUELLER

Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of Florida

John K. Schueller is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and an affiliate professor of agricultural and biological engineering at the University of Florida. He has over forty years of experience in research on agricultural equipment, including work on design, manufacturing, management, and automation. He is most known for his pioneering work in precision agriculture, including developing yield mapping and variable application technologies. As a generalist expert in both agricultural equipment and precision agriculture, he frequently is asked to comment on trends in agricultural technologies. Prof. Schueller has had leadership roles in ASABE, ASME, CIGR, IEEE, SAE, and SME. He is the Chair Editor-in-Chief of Computers and Electronics in Agriculture. Prof. Schueller has served on over 400 postgraduate supervisory committees, made visits to 40 countries, and presented lecture courses to over 10,000 students. He has previously been employed by Ken Schueller Farms, Gilson Brothers Company, Purdue University, Texas A&M University, Caterpillar, and Kyoto University.

PROF. IR. DR. AZMI DATO' YAHYA

Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)

Ir. Dr. Azmi Yahya is a Professor with a professional engineering qualification in Agricultural Machinery Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering cum Research Associate at the Institute of Plantation Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Throughout his 34 excellent years with UPM, he has actively and significantly contributed to the curriculum, research and professional development of agricultural engineering discipline in Malaysia. He had held several important administrative positions within UPM and had been in a number of national and international working committees. He sits as the Advisory Board and Editorial Board Members in five international scientific journal publications. He has secured, a total of more than RM7.59 million research grants within his capacity as a principal researcher; a collection of more than 220 scientific publications; 3 internationally published technical books; eight granted patents; and six international product and innovation awards. Recently, the College of Engineering at Iowa State University honored him at a very special Alumni event in the campus with the “Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering or PACE Award” for his outstanding achievements in professional practice. He was the fist recipient outside USA to be given such a recognition by the College of Engineering at Iowa State University.

PROF. DR. DENG GANRAN

Tropical Agricultural Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS)

Professor DENG Ganran is currently a Research fellow of Tropical Agricultural Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Mechanization Post Scientist of the National Cassava Industrial Technology System of China, and Head of Key Laboratory of Agricultural Equipment for Tropical Crops, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, P. R. China, He is long engaged in research and development of tropical agricultural machinery and equipment, design and standardization. Graduated from Southwest Agricultural University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical design and manufacturing, and received his master degree of Engineering from Huazhong Agricultural University in 2005. He hosted or participated in more than 40 national and provincial scientific research projects, research areas covering cassava machinery, sugarcane machinery, pineapple machinery, palm oil machinery, macadamia nut processing machinery, etc. And now is leading a mechanization post scientist project supported by National Modern Agricultural Industrial Technology System Construction Program of China, and a project task supported by National Key Research and Development Program of China named “Research and Development of Sugarcane Efficient Planting Technology and Equipment”. He has published more than 120 journal papers and obtained more than 70 patents. Professor Deng is a master tutor of Huazhong Agricultural University, Guangdong Ocean University and Hainan University. He is vice chairman and secretary general of the National Alliance for Mechanization Innovation of Tropical and Subtropical Crops, and director of Guangdong Provincial Center for Technology Innovation of Tropical Crops Equipment.

DR. MOHD AZWAN MOHD BAKRI

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)

Mohd Azwan Mohd Bakri is currently Head of Mechanisation and Engineering Unit, Engineering & Processing Division, MPOB. He serves MPOB in the oil palm mechanisation and automation engineering research area for the last 14 years. He has close interaction with the palm oil industry, especially in the upstream sector, throughout his direct involvement in several projects. Amongst that are Oil Palm Industry Mechanisation Incentive Scheme, the establishment of the JPK certified skill training course on mechanisation operation, Mechanisation Fund, industry-government interaction session, research advisory panel and several others. Previous experienced in a UNDP – Government project on the oil palm biomass power generation and co-generation. During that tenure, he had also involved in a scientific and technical advisory panel for biofuel application. He had obtained PhD in Renewable Energy from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2017. The project was related to the rational use of energy in oil palm mechanisation operation and the application of an automation system.
