A Round table is an interactive discussion format. After a short presentation, there will be ample time for discussion. During a round table you will get the opportunity to have an in-depth discussion on one or two central issues of your research. To make it easier for the participants to take part in the discussion, you send in a hand-out. The hand-outs are intended to support a short 5 to 10-minute presentation and should contain the following points:
Problem statement: What is the problem statement and why should it be studied? It is also possible to include certain illustrations, graphs or numbers if this contributes to the clarification of the problem.
Round-table questions: One or two specific questions (relevant to your study) you want to present to the participants.
Note: this means you do not use slides during your presentation.
Before the 1st of March you will send in your hand-out to c.vonk@uu.nl, so we can make sure your audience can read the hand-outs beforehand.
You can use the handouts to support the presentation and discussion, but make sure your presentation and your hand out are not too lengthy. Try to make them clear, structured, concise, and attractive. Avoid long texts and use diagrams, graphs, and/or tables to visualize your information effectively.
The presenters of a Round Table presentation are asked to send in a short paper of their presentation (max. 2500 words in APA style, including references) using the submission form for abstracts and papers before 1 February , 2021.
Of course this paper does not have to be a complete paper. It is meant to explain your research to the chair and a discussant of your session, so they have a little more insight in your research, and the questions that you want to ask during the session.
Also, send in a short abstract (max. 300 words). We will use your abstract on this website to inform the ICO Spring School attendants about your Round Table session. The paper itself will only be send to your discussant and the chair of the session, and will not be used in any publications concerning the ICO ISS2021.
It is possible to resubmit the same abstract and paper as you did for the ISS2020.
total duration: 30 minutes:
presentation: 5-10 minutes
group discussion: 20 minutes
There will be 2 round table presentations per session of 1 hour.
