ICLS workshop 8: Organizing and analyzing computer-supported collaborative writing
Half-day workshop on Sunday 24th June, 9:00 am to 13:00 pm - see list of ICLS workshops
Organisers: Bram De Wever, Nore De Grez, Raija Hämäläinen, Antti Lehtinen, Stian Håklev, Jennifer Olsen, Kshitij Sharma
Contact: icls2018workshopcscwriting@lists.ugent.be
Registration: through this form (see more information below)
The central theme of this workshop is the design, tracking and analysis of collaborative writing. The goal of the workshop is to exchange information and good practices regarding:
(1) How to design (synchronous or asynchronous) CSCL writing tasks. This can include issues as
(a) How to take into account individual writing preferences?
(b) How to compose groups for productive collaborative writing?
(c) How to provide instructional support (e.g. a script) for students involved in these activities?
(2) How to analyze collaborative writing processes in different environments (such as wikis, etherpad, google docs, etc.). Analyzing the collaborative writing processes can be either done manually or automatically (software). This can encompass questions like:
(a) How to deal with the analysis of the text products and specific editing actions during the writing process (e.g. additions, deletions, relocations)?
(b) How to find indicators for productive collaboration?
(c) How to identify different strategies for collaborative writing (e.g. more sequential vs parallel working).
We are welcoming researchers from different fields, and also invite them to bring material to the workshop. There is a subscription form in which we ask you to share a bit of your background and to let us know what information or material (should you have some) you would like to bring.
Our aim is to gather an interdisciplinary group of researchers from different fields (learning sciences, computer sciences, etc.) that are working in the field of (computer-supported) collaborative writing. We focus on designing, tracking and analyzing collaborative writing processes, which includes manual or automatic coding, learning analytics, data visualization, writing preferences, and/or adaptive support of Computer-supported collaborative writing.
We will build the final program of the workshop in a flexible way, based on input of the participants. Therefore, we would like you to register (and send some information on what you might bring to the workshop) the latest by June 2, but preferably before May 27.
This is already some information on what we as organizers will bring to the workshop:
- Details on a design and a first pilot study on synchronous collaboritive writing, including some first manual analysis of the data (UGent)
- Details on automatic coding of the UGent data by researchers at EPFL
- ... [Your ideas and material are welcome, see our form below in the registration section]
Registration is easy.
(1) First, use this form, tell us who you are, and whether you want to bring something to the workshop.
(2) Second, register and pay through the ICLS conference website (we are ICLS workshop 8, and they will add £50 to your registration fee).
We are looking forward to see you in London!
Raija, Jennifer, Stian, Kshitij, Antti, Nore and Bram
