Previous MobileMe users could keep their @mac.com and @me.com email addresses as aliases to their new @icloud.com address. Earlier versions included Back to My Mac, which was previously part of MobileMe.[14] This service allowed users to create point-to-point connections between computers. It was discontinued on July 1, 2019.

The same thing happened to me when I changed my apple id email account. Everything went haywire and icloud deleted my desktop and documents folders. However, when I go into "all my files" in finder, all of the files that used to be on my desktop are in the all my files section.

Hi guys i Think i found out where you can get all the data back (and i dont know why apple would do somthing like this as it is soo stupid) when you chosse to back up your files on icloud (Which i will never do again in the future) a sperate folder is made on you mac calles "icloud Drive (Archive)" it is located in Users > " your computer user name" > iCLoud Drive (Archive) - here you should find all your files that were just deleted ! (well at least i did)

Same here with ipad air. Plenty of memory free in icloud (and devices) but items stuck in "syncing," then "syncing paused," and now I see nothing about syncing but the items are not in photos. They've seemingly just vanished into ... who knows where. This started more than 12 hours ago, devices restarted, still nothing.

Many of iCloud's challenges are the same as those faced by other cloud service providers. Users are limited to using software specially designed to access that particular cloud. Though iCloud is available anywhere you can access the Internet, it still requires some sort of front end application to manage the connection between you and your data. This is either built into the app you're using, or is available by browsing to icloud.com.

One unique challenge for iCloud started in a courtroom rather than a computer. Within days of Apple's June 2011 announcement naming the iCloud product, an Arizona voice-over-IP (VoIP) provider filed a lawsuit. The firm, iCloud Communications, had owned the right to its company name since 2005. Apple had filed eleven trademark applications for the iCloud name and brand and purchased the icloud.com domain from Swedish company Xcerion. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, iCloud Communications didn't register the iCloud brand itself, leaving it up for grabs. One legal expert predicted that Apple would settle the lawsuit out of court, but the case was not yet resolved as of this writing [sources: Hollister, Keizer].

I've just set up my first iPad, and first Apple device. To be extra cautious when setting it up, I created a brand new @icloud.com username, to use as the Apple ID. The username was 10 characters long, and included random alphanumeric characters. The password was also completely random, and over 12 characters long.
