About Prof. M. S. Shetty
Prof. M S Shetty born on 25 September, 1929 is fondly known as Father of Concrete by many of his students & well-wishers. He obtained Masters in Civil Engineering from Pune University in 1960. Initially serving with Madras PWD and Indian Railways, he joined CME (College of Military Engineering) in Pune in 1959. He possesses a very long professional experience – of almost 65 years!
With this vast acquired knowledge in Concrete Technology, Prof. Shetty contributed immensely to education in concrete. He educated more than 2 lakhs Army Engineers (a mammoth task indeed!) who become the Project In-charge of various Mega Projects of Indian Army, Navy, Air Force & Border roads Organization. He has guided more than 45 Degree Engineers from the Ministry of Defence to obtain their Post Graduate Degree. He was also a member of the Board of Studies of Pune University at this time.
Prof. Shetty's book “Concrete Technology: Theory and Practice”, first published in 1982 has remained as reference book to many. The book has seen eight editions & nearly 50 reprints!! Constant revision has given the book its status as a vital text book answering to the curricular needs of engineering colleges. All these years the book has been enjoying five-star status in India as per Google.
After his retirement in 1989. Prof. Shetty was associated with number of major construction companies - MC Bauchemie (Ind) Pvt. Ltd., UltraTech Cement Ltd., Delhi Metro Railway Corporation, - to mention a few.
In recognition of his long service, Prof Shetty was received numerous awards. Some of these awards included: Commendation Medal of Engineers in chief Army Headquarters New Delhi: Outstanding Concrete Technologist of Indian from India Concrete Institute; CM Shah Concrete Technology Award from Institution of Engineers, Pune Center: Meritorious Service Award from American Concrete Institute, Indian Chapter; Honoured by Federation of Engineers, Karnataka on 15th September for distinguished service by an Engineer from Karnataka. “Life Time Achievement Award”, a national award for the year 2017 bestowed by Indian Concrete Institute.
The ICI is pleased to dedicate this Seminar to honour Prof. M. S. Shetty, who has contributed enormously to the technical education in cement and concrete in India.
