The explosive progress in generative AI over recent months has accelerated the integration of AI into society. Furthermore, regarding the relationship between mathematics and AI, we are now seeing numerous examples that go beyond the conventional view that ‘mathematics forms the foundation of AI’, touching upon the very essence of mathematics as a discipline. Against this backdrop, we have invited leaders of the international mathematics community to gather at the IMI to discuss freely: what trends are currently shaping mathematics, what the future of mathematics might look like as a result, and, furthermore, what kind of society mathematics will help shape within this broader context of current trends.
