Imagination and creativity often go together, but are they the same? If imagination is based on images, do we need it to create a melody?
There is a traditional opposition between art and science, in particular as academic fields. It seems important to overcome this dichotomy, considering that art can be developed using science and technology (in particular artificial intelligence), and that science is creative and extensively uses images.
Human beings have been characterized since the antiquity as logical (rational) animals. Their reasoning ability allows them to understand the world and to transform it. Their intelligence makes things intelligible. To what extent does intelligence depend on imagination and how creative is it?
This interdisciplinary event addresses all these questions. It is a tribute to Newton da Costa, one of the main Brazilian scientists of the 20th century, who passed away on April 16, 2024, a round table will be organized during the event about his personality and his work.
