About the Department of Mathematics, The BES College


The Department of Mathematics of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata, was established in 1966, the very year the college was founded, reflecting the vision of its founders to give mathematics a prominent place in the academic structure of the institution. Since its inception, the department has consistently pursued excellence in teaching and academic development and has established itself as one of the distinguished departments of the college. Through the undergraduate programme, students receive rigorous training in logical reasoning, mathematical analysis, and problem-solving techniques, which help them develop strong quantitative aptitude, analytical thinking, and confidence to pursue diverse career paths in academia, research, industry, and related fields. About The Calcutta Mathematical Society


The Calcutta Mathematical Society (CMS), founded on 6 September 1908, is one of the oldest and most prestigious mathematical societies in India. It was established under the leadership of Sir Asutosh Mookerjee, then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, with the support of distinguished scholars including Sir Gurudas Banerjee, Prof. C. E. Cullis, Prof. Gauri Sankar Dey, and Prof. Phanindra Lal Ganguly, along with ninety founding members. Located in Kolkata, a historic centre of higher learning in India, the society has played a significant role in promoting research, education, and scholarly interaction in mathematics for more than a century.
