2nd International Conference on Data Engineering and Communication Technology (ICDECT) 2017

ICDECT-Springer 2017

December 15 & 16, 2017

The aim of this 2nd International Conference on Data Engineering and Communication Technology (ICDECT) 2017 is to present a unified platform for advanced and multi-disciplinary research towards design of smart computing, information systems and electronic systems. The theme focuses on various innovation paradigms in system knowledge, intelligence and sustainability that may be applied to provide realistic solution to variegated problems in society, environment and industries. The scope is also extended towards deployment of emerging computational and knowledge transfer approaches, optimizing solutions in a variety of disciplines of computer science and electronics engineering. The conference proceedings aim to publish unpublished work pertaining to the topics listed below. The conference is scheduled to be held on December 15 & 16, 2017 at Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Symbiosis international University Pune, India.

Title: Optimization in logistic operations with cases studies

Time: 12:30 pm - 01:30 pm

December 15, 2017

In this speech I will put forward some experiences I have acquired as a logistic consulter when serving to optimize the supply network of the largest Iranian auto maker. In this talk I will explain how the use of just-in- time rationale caused the suppliers bear excessive transportation costs and accordingly their bargaining power gets rise, resulting in an inefficient network management. I will elaborate how we could potentially reduce the transpiration costs to one third through devising a milk-run collection-delivery rationale. The problem’s mathematical model and its solution via a metaheuristic algorithm is explained accordingly. As another case, I will focus on how the marine logistic operations in the largest Iranian Oil and Gas Company were improved via operations research techniques. The problem is of a fleet sizing type where the company wanted to conduct a 150 m$ auction to hire supply vessels for its logistic operations. But who knew the true number of vessels? Both of cost and safety issues were critical. Through optimization and simulation models we could find a scientific answer for the company’s managers. I also will maneuver on the data analysis phase carried out as a part of the project.
