About the program

What is the Intensive Cognitive-Communication Rehabilitation (ICCR) program?

ICCR is a simulated college semester for young adults who have experienced Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or stroke. Individuals who wish to continue or pursue higher education, but who struggle with cognitive (aka "thinking") and language skills, can participate in this 15-week intensive intervention to support success in the classroom.

In ICCR, students attend daily academic lectures with support from a speech-language pathologist, as well as individual speech language therapy sessions once a week, and daily technology sessions (e.g., Constant Therapy, Microsoft Office and Google App training).

This intensive therapy program is a research study, conducted through the Boston University Aphasia Research Lab, to evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive cognitive rehabilitation protocol.

How can I find ICCR?

ICCR is held virtually over Zoom and in the past in-person at BU Sargent College (635 Commonwealth Ave, Boston MA). It runs during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Classes are held Mondays - Fridays (with one day off that varies semester to semester) 10 am - 4 pm.

How much does ICCR cost?

As a research study, ICCR has operated free of charge. This may change in future program semesters.
