The Wichita State Physical Therapy Department has partnered with Davis-Moore Auto Group and other community partners, Bicycle Pedaler and Ascension Via Christi- Safe Kids, to host iCan Bike and iCan Swim camps beginning in 2023. These camps help children in the community learn to bike and swim! They also give the physical therapy students hands-on opportunities during their education in the Wichita State Physical Therapy Program.
iCan Shine
iCan Shine is an international charitable nonprofit organization. They collaborate with local organizations and individuals to conduct approximately 100 five-day ‘iCan’ programs in 35 States and Canada serving nearly 3,000 people with disabilities each year.
Movement and play are the basis for all iCan Shine programs. Each program provides success through experience. Every effort is acknowledged for each unique person’s individual abilities. Recreational skills can be difficult to master for individuals with disabilities. Breaking skills into small, achievable goals and celebrating each accomplishment builds the self-esteem and confidence needed to continue learning.
This is what they call the sense of “iCan”. Everyone needs to believe “iCan” in order to make the effort required to gain the skill. Positive encouragement and guidance from well-trained, energized instructors and volunteers allow each participant to discover and develop their “iCan” mantra in a safe, supportive and fun environment.
iCan Shine Wichita is a proud host of iCan Bike and iCan Swim camps each summer! Through community volunteers and the support of local businesses and organizations, we are able to host these camps simultaneously on Wichita State University's campus.
