Mission Statement
The Ithaca College Macabre Theatre Ensemble, established in 2011, exists to provide Ithaca College with supernatural, horror, horror comedy, science-fiction, avant-garde, and experimental theatre. The word ‘macabre’ is defined as “disturbing and horrifying because of involvement with or depiction of death and injury.” Shows or shadow casts that have overlying themes of mental illness may be applicable. However, just because a production deals with death as one of its many themes does not make it Macabre for us; as a club, we focus on theater that disturbs our viewers, making them feel disgusted in one way or another. Many of our past works deal with questioning sanity, traumatic life events, and – at times – violent ends.
We largely take preference to original works, adaptations of cult & horror films (as long as the rights have been obtained, but we can help with that), or lesser-known works. Also, feel free to put your own Macabre twist on an existing story! However, we also produce well-known shows, as long as it perturbs our viewers. As a theater club, we also think education and sharing knowledge is incredibly important. Not knowing how to act, sing, control lights, or make sound cues is completely alright. There is someone here to teach and guide you, and if there isn’t, the board will find someone to teach.
The most memorable theater makes you feel strong emotions, so let us make disturbing theater together.
