Parents, we are excited you are here! Your student is participating in a collaborative project between your child's school, the Department of Educational Psychology (School of Education), and the Department of Biology (College of Arts and Sciences) at Baylor University called iBEARS.
iBEARS stands for Inclusive Biologist Exploring Active Research with Students. In this program, Baylor undergraduate science majors meet with your students virtually on Zoom and guide them through designing and conducting their own experiments using live organisms. This is a collaborative process where the class will decide on a research question, organism, variables, and data collection techniques.
This fantastic learning opportunity provides your student access to high-quality research experiences not typically available in a public school. Through this collaboration, your student will gain problem-solving, teamwork, curiosity, critical thinking, and perseverance skills. These skills extend beyond the classroom and prepare children with valuable skill sets that set them up for future success.
The culmination of this project is a field trip to Baylor University, where your student will present their final project results, tour Baylor University science labs, and meet with Baylor Science and Education professors, graduate students, and undergraduates. You are invited to attend the presentation to support and celebrate your student's success.
Please contact your student's teacher about your student's involvement, or email our team directly, ibears.network@gmail.com
