I have been studying spabnish since 8th grade and have continued all throughout high school. I am not able to use my IB course this year as my language development because I am testing in the class. Although, my classwork last year in spanish 3 accounts for far more then the required 25 hours for the year. below I have an example of a presentation I did in my class last year.

My family is from russia and I was able to speak it until I went to an american preschool and lost it. Russaian culture and the language has always been a big thing in my life and I decided to use this oppurtunity to increase my knowledge and skill.

My language development was mainly speaking with my grandma and mom, but I also did 5 minutes of duilingo every day. Along with those daily activities, I participated in a few extra ectivities to improve my communication and comprehension. These activities included watching youtube videos in russian with english subtitles, and shows in the oposite way (in russian with english subtitles). This was to help me see the diffrence in the two types of films as well as compare english vs russian sentences. I also created a documment with 25 of the words I am learning in health careers translated into russian. This relates to my future because I plan on using my language skills in the future as a healthcare provider. Lastly, I read a childhood book to try ans help me see the letters and alphabet more since it is very diffrent from english. Overall, I am very happy with the scope of activities I did because it mainly works on understanding and speaking which is what I think will be more beneficial for me. In the future I plan on continuing this language development by using duolingo, talking with family members, amd watching my favorite shows or yutube videos with russian subtitles or in russian.
I am very happy with and grateful for this language development becausue I believe it will help me i the future in many ways. First of all, it has clearly imporved my comprehension for russian. This will help me in my home life, in the community, and in my future job. I believe that the more people you can communicate with, the better. This self study was also very beneficial for me becayse it taught me to advocate for myself and hold myself accountable. It taught me to never go to sleep without doing my duolingo. It taught me to always turn on subtitles while watching a movie to integrate learning into entertainment. It taught me how to translate the medical terminology I am learning into another language to better communicate. This Indepoendent langauge development has taught me to be independent in my learning. Overall , it has showed me that anythng I want to get better at can be done indavidually and single handedly.

Final Meeting and Reflection with Mentor
March 31st 2026
Today I presented my portfolio to my mentor for our final meeting. I went over the activities I participated in and completed. Here, me and her talked about where I believe I improved the most and where I still need work. I thought about how I will continue improving my skills with this langage because I know it will be important in the healthcare field. I will keep going with my duolingo streak and watching my favorite shows and youtube videos with Russian subtitles. Overall, my mentor and I are very happy with my final meeting and my language development altogether. I have independently made strives towards better communication and I know it will pay off in the future.
