If you want a high-fidelity wired setup with open-back soundstage for critical listening, choose iBasso SR3; if you need long battery life, active noise cancellation, and wireless convenience for travel or play, choose Cambridge Audio Melomania P100.
• iBasso SR3: The biggest strength is its open-back design with bio-cellulose drivers that deliver exceptional detail and a wide soundstage, but the trade-off is zero isolation from outside noise and a requirement for a dedicated amplifier due to 150 ohm impedance.
• Cambridge Audio Melomania P100: The standout feature is an incredible 100-hour battery life combined with adaptive active noise cancellation, though it trades off some of the ultra-high frequency extension found in open designs due to its closed architecture.
• Who should buy which: The iBasso SR3 is for audiophiles who sit in quiet rooms, while the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 is for anyone needing all-day power and portability.
The iBasso SR3 is built for a very specific type of listener who prioritizes sonic purity over convenience. This is not a headset you throw in a backpack for a commute or use on a busy bus. It is an open-back headphone designed to let air flow through the earcups, creating a spacious, three-dimensional audio image that feels less like speakers are in your ears and more like music is filling the room. The engineering behind this relies heavily on the Tesla flux technology and bio-cellulose diaphragms, which allow for precise micro and macro dynamics. If you have ever felt that other headphones sound "boxed in" or muddy, the open nature of the SR3 aims to dissolve those boundaries entirely.
However, this design comes with significant constraints that define who can actually use this product effectively. Because the earcups are open, there is absolutely no passive noise isolation. You will hear everything happening around you, and people around you will hear what you are listening to. Furthermore, the specifications list an impedance of 150 ohms and a sensitivity of 106dB. While the sensitivity is decent, the high impedance means these headphones will struggle to reach their full potential when plugged directly into a phone or a laptop without a dedicated headphone amplifier. They are wired only, using a 4.4mm balanced connection or a 6.3mm adapter, which locks you into a stationary listening position.

This makes the iBasso SR3 ideal for a dedicated home listening station. It fits the person who wants to dissect a recording, hearing every breath and string scrape, and who values accuracy above all else. It is also an excellent choice for someone looking for the best gaming headset for children who has a quiet, dedicated desk setup and wants immersive audio for simulation games or strategy titles where spatial awareness is key. However, if you need to block out the world, or if you plan to use them while walking around, this is the wrong tool for the job. The lack of noise control means they are strictly for environments where silence is already present or where you do not mind the ambient noise bleeding in.
In stark contrast, the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 SE is engineered for the modern, mobile user who refuses to compromise on battery life or sound quality. The headline feature here is the massive 100-hour playback time powered by a user-replaceable battery. This is a game-changer for anyone who hates the anxiety of running out of power mid-listen. You can charge it once and go for days, or even weeks, depending on usage. The inclusion of adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) further cements its place as a versatile companion for noisy environments. Whether you are on a plane, a train, or just trying to focus in a busy household, the ANC actively monitors and cancels out low-frequency droning noises, allowing you to enjoy your music without distraction.
The connectivity and smart features make this unit incredibly adaptable for daily life. With Bluetooth 5 support, aptX Lossless transmission, and multipoint connection, you can seamlessly switch between devices without reconnecting. The wear detection sensor automatically pauses your music when you take the headphones off, adding a layer of convenience that wired models simply cannot offer. The enclosure material is plastic, which keeps the weight manageable despite the large battery capacity, and the design focuses on long-listening comfort. You can customize the sound profile significantly using the 7-band adjustable EQ within the Melomania Connect app, or let the DynamEQ feature handle dynamic adaptation automatically.
This product is the perfect fit for families seeking the best in ear headphones for children who need durability and freedom from wires, or parents who want the best on ear headphones for children to ensure safety during outdoor activities. The wireless nature eliminates tripping hazards, and the robust battery ensures the device lasts through long road trips or school commutes. Unlike the open-back SR3, the closed design of the P100 provides natural isolation, and the active noise cancellation adds an extra layer of protection against loud surroundings. It is designed for the person who moves constantly and needs a reliable audio partner that can keep up with a chaotic schedule without needing a wall outlet nearby.

For most buyers, especially those considering options for family use or general daily driving, I would personally choose the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100. The combination of a 100-hour battery, active noise cancellation, and wireless convenience offers a level of utility that the iBasso SR3 simply cannot match. While the SR3 is a marvel of engineering for pure sound reproduction, its reliance on a wired connection, lack of isolation, and need for an external amplifier make it too restrictive for everyday scenarios. The Cambridge unit strikes a far better balance between high-fidelity audio and practical lifestyle needs, making it the superior choice for anyone looking for the best gaming headset for children or a reliable pair of headphones for the whole family to use on the go.
The Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 features adaptive active noise cancellation designed to reduce external noise, whereas the iBasso SR3 is an open-back model that lets all surrounding sounds pass through freely.
Yes, the iBasso SR3 has a 150-ohm impedance which typically requires a dedicated headphone amplifier to reach its full potential, unlike the Cambridge Audio P100 which works directly with standard Bluetooth sources.
Yes, one of the key features of the Melomania P100 SE is its user-replaceable battery, allowing you to swap it out when it eventually degrades to maintain the 100-hour playback life.
For children, the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 is often the safer bet due to the wireless design and noise cancellation, but the iBasso SR3 could be excellent for a quiet, dedicated gaming setup if parental supervision ensures proper equipment handling.
