A food chain is the interaction and tranfer of energy between organisms within an ecosystem and contains multiple feeding levels.
In the case of a desert, there are four feeding levels. The primary producers, primary consumers, secondary/ tertiary consumers, and apex predators
The primary producers are usually plants which photosynthesize.
The primary consumers are usually insects, small critters, and herbivores
The secondary consumers and tertiary predators are bigger than the previous feeding level creatures, which are omnivores and carnivores
The apex predators are carniores and eat the secondary consumers.
These create food out of sunlight and preserved water by photosynthesis.
Date Palms, Cacti, Acacia, Sagebrush, Desert Milkweed
Jack rabbits, Javelinas, Bobcats, Kangaroo Rats, Coyotes
Dung beetle, Fly, Millipede, Saharan Silver Ant
A food web is the accumulation of interlocking and interdependent food chains that often provide the overall picture of the transfer of energy through out organisms within a specifc ecosystem.
Fluff grass, Brittle Brush, and Velvet Mesquite photosynthesize.
A lizard eats these
The lizard is part of many food sources for a rattlesnake.
The rattle snake is eaten by Red-tailed hawk and Fennec Fox
The introduction of invasive species can disrupt one part of the system that has cascading effects on other parts.
Loss of habitat due to city creation. Example, Dubai
