To inspire collaboration and professional development through network building and partnership within the Illinois Japanese language teacher community.
一筋の矢は折るべし十筋の矢は折り難し...One arrow can be easily broken, but ten in a bundle cannot.
We stand with all people and celebrate individual differences. Organizations that are diverse in age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, and perspective are our key to a better future. As educators, we are committed to teaching by example while challenging our current systems and beliefs.
About
The IATJ was formed in November 1990. Itsuko Mizuno of Murray Language Academy was the founding president.*
The IATJ is a community of Japanese language teachers ranging from kindergarten through post-secondary levels. We strive to provide collaboration among educators, articulation between grade levels, and professional development with a focus on current and modern classroom strategies.
The IATJ is an affiliate of American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ) and Illinois Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ICTFL)
