Directions to The Catholic University of America
From Local Airports using Metro
To ride the DC Metro system you can purchase a “SmarTrip” card at the vending machines in each Metro station, or you can use a phone app or a contactless credit or debit card. More details can be found here: https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/new-riders/Visitors-Kit.cfm
From Ronald Reagan National Airport
Metrorail is the fastest and easiest way to reach campus. Upon arrival, you can follow the signs to the Metrorail terminal. (Although it is within walking distance from all the terminals, you may wish to take the available free shuttle bus to the Metro if you arrive in Terminal A.) Travelers then take Metro's YELLOW line (in the direction of Greenbelt) to the Gallery Place/Chinatown station, transfer to the RED line (in the direction of Glenmont) and arrive at the Brookland-CUA metro stop. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes.
(Taxis and rental cars are also available.)
From Baltimore/Washington International Airport (also known as Thurgood Marshall Airport)
There are various public transportation options, but the simplest is to take the free airport shuttle to the MARC/Amtrak station, where you should find ticket vending machines. The MARC and Amtrak trains run fairly regularly (every 30 to 40 minutes on the weekdays) and will take you to Union Station in Washington, DC. The schedule for the MARC train from the BWI station to Union Station can be found here: https://www.mta.maryland.gov/schedule/timetable/marc-penn?origin=12003&destination=11958&direction=0&schedule_date=07%2F02%2F2025. From Union Station you can take the Metro’s RED line in the direction of Glenmont, and get off at the Brookland/CUA stop.
From Dulles International Airport
Though taxis and shuttles are available, Metrorail is a convenient option, and often faster (about 60 to 90 minutes to campus) during rush hour. After arriving at the main terminal, follow the signs to Metrorail. Take the SILVER line into town in the direction of Downtown Largo to Metro Center (about 18 stops), and change to the RED line in the direction of Glenmont until you reach the Brookland-CUA stop where you alight.
After arriving at the Brookland-CUA Metro Stop on the Red line:
Exit to the left when leaving the station. Walk up the hill between Pangborn and Nursing-Biology past the Crough Center for Architectural Studies. Turn right and walk alongside the architecture building to the Pryzbyla Center (“the Pryz”) where you can check in at the Information Desk.
