Ian Robertson received his Ph.D. in Human Factors and Human-Computer Interaction from Rice University in May 2021.

His dissertation topic focuses on understanding trust in automation as it applies to self-driving vehicles. The main product of this research is a subjective measurement of trust. This measure is intended to be a tool that can be used by researchers, designers, and engineers to improve interactions between vehicles and users (e.g., passengers and vulnerable road users) to create safer, usable, and equitable systems.

Ian's past research includes contrasting discount methods of measuring subjective usability with lab-based measurements as well as exploring how subjective usability measurement is impacted by cognitive fatigue and serial decision making.
