The career field that I have decided to pursue is civil engineering. Civil engineering first called me upon my first visit to New York City. Being from a small town, I was fascinated by the huge skyscrapers, the sprawling subway, and the rows and rows of buildings. Even now, cities seem unreal, and visiting them feels like a dream. Structures designed to withstand earthquakes, bridges that seem to defy gravity, these feats of engineering stand as a testament to human ingenuity and will. It is my utmost desire to contribute to these marvels of engineering.
I’m currently enrolled in a variety of classes and programs that will aid my future in engineering. My Calculus and Physics courses provide essential knowledge in terms of engineering. Likewise, my Seminar and Psychology classes teach skills that are invaluable in professional and career settings. Last of all, my enrollment in my county’s engineering program will provide the fundamental skills at the heart of the field.
A large portion of my time out of school is dedicated to wrestling. This will be my third year on the Leonardtown Highschool team. Wrestling teaches a multitude of lessons but most of all it teaches you how to handle and accept failure. A loss in wrestling can be blamed on no one but yourself. Failure means reflecting on and fixing your mistakes, both in wrestling and in life. Working in fast food has also taught me a multitude of skills applicable in professional environments. From communication to working under pressure, I feel ready to move forward with my future.
Immediately after graduating from high school I plan on attending a college or university to achieve a higher education in engineering and business. Alongside higher education, I hope to be accepted for an internship to further develop my career readiness and work experience.
After achieving my goals, I aim to positively impact the society in which I live by upholding safety and aiding those in need through engineering. I wish to improve the lives of those around me and work towards a better future.
